A Brief History
- January 8, 1810--Chartered by the Grand Lodge of Ohio as Mt. Zion #7, and instituted in Clinton, Ohio. Samuel H. Smith served as the first Worshipful Master.
- January 9, 1812--Mt. Zion #7 mistakenly renumbered Mt. Zion #9 in Grand Lodge records.
- May 23, 1814--First Masonic funeral held in Knox County for Bro. Richard Fishback.
- March 7, 1817--Meeting place changed from Clinton to Mount Vernon. Meetings held in court house.
- June 23, 1819--Mount Zion #9 moved to newly built meeting place on North Mulberry Street.
- January, 1824--Grand Lodge officially re-numbered Mt. Zion as Lodge #9.
- July 4, 1876--Mt. Zion #9 ceremoniously laid cornerstone of monument to Knox County's citizen-soldiers on Public Square.
- April 21, 1892--Present site of Mt. Zion #9's lodge dedicated.
- August 28, 1913--Mt. Zion #9 ceremoniously laid cornerstone of Knox County Jail (Chestnut Street).
- August 26, 1923--More than 400 Masons attended a special memorial service honoring the late Bro. Warren G. Harding, 29th President of the United States.
- Memorial Day, 1929--First "Sunrise Raising" conducted.
- December 23, 1937--An early morning fire was discovered in the Lodge's basement. Five hours later, the flames were extinguished. Damages came to more than $13,000.
- 1966--Mt. Zion Lodge #9 hosted Bloomfield Lodge #422 and Danville Lodge #546 for its first triple inspection.
- June 22, 1985--Mt. Zion Lodge #9 celebrated its 175th year by holding a special reconsecration ceremony, which was attended by the Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Ohio.
